December 11, 2024 Breakfast Meeting Notes
We opened with Tony’s famous NH Trivia, Songs of the Season edition, part 1. Prizes were awarded for correct answers.
The 50/50 was won by Denise, who donated it to Tom.
Phil pulled the 7 of diamonds so the card game will continue.
Denise reported that when singing carols with the kids, we shouldn’t let the kids choose the songs! They pick some that are not well known by those of us over 50.
Recap of the Hometown Holiday Celebration: Financially we did about the same as usual, $900-$1000. Sales were good once people figured out where the carts were. Food waste was minimal, prep worked well at JJ’s;. We learned that we cannot push the carts around, given the strollers, kids, and dogs on the sidewalk, Having runners to go back to get more food was helpful. We need to get 2 more carts because we were not able to sell anything on the Commons side. We coulduse a backup hot box for carts on the Common to avoid having runners crossing the road. Food on Green Street should probably be coffee and donuts (quick things to sell to parade participants). Alex, Steve, and Sue were thrilled with how it all went; it saved time on setting up the grills and generators and cleaning up afterwards.
Beth suggested that the registration form could include an order form for basic donuts or other snack food for kids who would be riding on the floats. Phil also suggested a coffee and donuts tent for parade participants post-parade. We could get a sponsor so we could offer these items for free.
Parade/float comments: The float was phenomenal! Phil made wonderful Rotary wheels. Green Street staging was challenging, as cars were blocking people from walking in the parade. We should make sure that Green Street is closed off during next year’s parade; Circle’s float was separated from the kids and they finally had to let the cars go on before the children could catch up. Marcie Gowan is in charge of the parade and registration so we will need to talk to her about this. The parade was larger this year and not all floats were able to line up on Green Street. We will need 10 lb. of candy for next year. Beth also asked about how parade marchers could disperse safely; at the end there were a lot of kids and it was “mayhem.” We should provide instructions and a map at registration about good spots to meet up on Green Street so that groups can plan where to gather after the parade.
Mike shared information on a free membership webinar, “Sparking Action in Your Club”, coming on January 14th and February 11. See poster below.

Beth had us do an Icebreaker Bingo game so we can get to know each other better. Anyone who got bingo was given a chocolate kiss!
Bring extra money next week for Tom and for the speaker form North Conway, who will be selling their flavored olive oil.
Next week on Friday the 20th is our board meeting.
Phil had a person express interest in joining recently. Prospective members should be invited to come to a meeting. Braden is head of the membership committee and he can arrange for a fireside chat..
Alicia is working on having the January club forum at Tenney Mountain on January 22nd with skiing afterwards. Stay tuned for more details..
Phil noted that the planning board will be holding a hearing on January 2 to discuss further development at Tenney Mountain; Plymouth residents are welcome to attend.
Happy dollars were shared by Tony (his wife had a stent placed on Monday), Mike, Denise, Beth, and Phil.
Respectfully submitted,
Lora Miller, secretary
