The secretary would like to thank Sharon Thorne for taking the following!
Rotary breakfast meeting: 4/24/24
Club forum was very light…school vacation week may have made a difference. 9 at meeting and 3 on Zoom. We had one guest, prospective new member, Paul Lamoreaux.
The membership committee will have the fireside chat with Paul after next week’s morning meeting.
Raffles: 50/50 won by Tony and he gave to Tom. Card game: Sharon drew 2 diamonds, game goes on another week.
Announcements: Changing of the Guard annual dinner is set for Tuesday, June 18th, 5:30 at The Barn on the Pemi. We are looking for nominations for the Citizen of the Year. If you have someone in mind, do a write up and submit it to Tony Fitzherbert.
Rotary After Hours is set for Thursday night, May 2nd at two locations. Happy hour at The Dam Brewhouse from 5Pm to 6PM, then dinner at Sunset Grill at 6:15. Please bring a guest, or two, to this evening event. It is an informal fellowship evening and is a great time.
The scholarship applications are scanned and sent out to the scholarship committee. The committee will do their best to pick 8-12 recipients for a $1,000 scholarship award.
The administration committee has been interviewing community members and leaders to find out what is needed, and how can Plymouth Rotary help with a service project. Ken also acknowledged Alicia’s work in consolidating the data and creating a spreadsheet with the results of the interviews. More discussion on what can Rotary do to help our community to follow.
New member applicant, Erica LaBelle’s application has been sent out to members at large. Any objections let the board of directors know, otherwise she will be our next newest member of our club.
Our website, www.plymouthrotarynh.org has some changes and updates. Please check it out and please provide feedback to Mike. Thank you.
The Styrofoam Project is ongoing. The Towns of Campton/Thornton and Holderness have a great process for collecting the foam and Tony, Ken and Russ have been making regular trips to Gilford, just about once per week. The Town of Plymouth has staffing issues and storage issues, because there is so much foam to collect and has not been able to participate at the level we were hoping.
The club is looking for a leader to manage the October service project with the Grafton County Nursing home. This is a simple and feel-good duty to obtain how many nursing home residents have October birthdays, buy cards for them, and ask our club members to sign the cards and send them to the Grafton County Nursing Home by October 1st. The nursing home has other businesses and organizations that participate for each month of the year, and our club volunteered to celebrate their birthdays in October! Please let Mike know you are willing to step up and take on this service project.
Last Friday the Board met and had several grant funding requests and have decided on the following awards:
- $500 to First Responders Together NH
- $500 to Squam Lakes Natural Science Center for a technology grant
- Up to $800 to Girl Scout Ella Duchette’s project for two new Welcome to Plymouth signs
- $100 to the Rotary District Conference ad in their event program.
The teacher scholarship award will be tabled this year, as the applicant does not qualify for it yet. Hopefully, next year it will be possible.
Denise asked if anyone else would like to attend our Rotary District’s changeover on Saturday afternoon, June 8th from 1-4 in N Conway. She would love to have company and needs a ride…If you haven’t attended a District event this would be a great one to go to, and meet a lot of other amazing Rotarians.
The board also approved the election results for new officers and board members starting the next fiscal year of 7/1/24.
Update from Omer Ahern, our Grafton County Commissioner. He stated its 2-1 vote in favor of spending more taxpayer money at the county level and he advised residents to talk to your State Rep about your concerns. He believes we will see a hike in county tax. The county farm is still going and producing food which is managed by the inmates at the county prison. Check with your county officials on availability of food surplus if you know of any need.
Happy dollars: Denise – the Ukraine crew got in and out safely. She also acknowledged the amazing job of getting over 400 people safely out of the Flying Monkey show last Saturday, after a fire broke out in the adjacent buildings. It only took 3 minutes to get everyone out in a safe and orderly manner. The fire department acted swiftly and called 3 or 4 alarms for assistance. Mike’s happy dollar, he is on his way to see his first grandchild to celebrate her first birthday!
Respectfully submitted,
Lora Miller, secretary
