May 21, 2025 Breakfast Meeting Notes
Guests: Mike, Raisa and Dan. Raisa and Dan should be members by next week!
Today is a club forum, held the week after our board meeting.
We opened with Tony’s ever-popular Famous NH Trivia, Hiking in the White Mountains Part 2.
The 50/50 was won by Russ for the second week in a row!
Greg won the chance to draw in the card game but did not select the ace of spades.
The speaker scheduled on the website is “off” and we need a speaker for next week. Mike Currier would like to talk to us about the skate park; Bill will reach out to him.
The weekend after this is the district conference at North Conway. Phil, Ken, Steve, Tony, Denise, and Mike will attend. Beth suggested that Tony be our proxy; this was voted and approved. We also had the club vote on Susan Cherry’s budget for her district governor year (2023-2024). The budge was approved.
Alicia asked if we could see the budget for the upcoming year; Mike said it’s already been approved and he can let us have a copy. Incoming district governor Luc will be speaking to us in July and can discuss the budget then. The changeover will be in Magog, Quebec, in the afternoon of June 7. There will be a cruise on Lake Magog as well as a followup dinner.
A huge thank you to those who helped clean up Circle Camp this past weekend. We had excellent turnout and got the camp in shape for the girls.
Ken reported to the board on the club financials. After we pay ClubRunner we will have $2800 in the bank, and still need to pay Chamber of Commerce dues. Dues notices to members will be going out soon. Please pay promptly.
Our foundation, less the Common Man for Ukraine funds, has approximatly $75,000. The club foundation checking account has $12,000 and the high yield account has $63,000. The club P& L through today shows $1500 in interest that was not separated out at our last board meeting. Income this fiscal year is $32,000, compared to about $28,000 at this time last year. We have spent $23,000 so far this year, as compared to $45,000 last year. We have $10,000 more that we need to spend this year. We have underspent this year; last year in part because we had a couple of large expenses last year (the TiGER van, the foam project) and we still have a large number of things to spend money on.
Beth has received a letter from Whole Village. We had donated $250 to their Valentine’s bags and somehow a scanned photo of our check was sent out to some of their employees They have rectified the problem and we will watch for any problems.
Changeover dinner: We have Michael Stoddard of TIGER as master of ceremonies. Tony will meet with him at Monte Alto later today. He is a talented comedian. The date is Wednesday, June 25, starting at 5:30 and running until 7 pm or beyond at the Covered Bridge Farm Table. We will have cocktails and socializing, games, and snacks. From 7 on Michael will be entertaining us. We will welcome friends, recognize past presidents, and recognize DG Kelly Drew. Tony will probably skip his trivia in the interests of letting Michael have more time. Then we will have guest speakers, aka our Citizen of the Year. The Citizen of the Year will be Tom and Dawn of Rueben’s Rescue Ranch who will talk about their animal sanctuary. Next we will have installation of new officers and the board of directors and their brief remarks. Finally we will announce the winner of the dart poker game that we are holding that night. It is $1 a shot, and if you stick a card you get to keep it. At end of the night the best poker hand wins. There will also be whiskey and wings at the restaurant that night, and dancing, for those who haven’t partied enough at the changover.
Penny Sale: Tony and Erica will be running it this year. We have the permit for use of the gym for one afternoon and one evening. The Penny Sale will be November 1. The setup date will be Wednesday October 15. Please put this date on your calendar…you must have your gifts by October 15!!! We will get out lists to members a couple of months ahead of time.
The Circle program put in a request for funding for one of their students to go to their end of summer field trip. Olivia has worked the Penny Sale the last 3 years, and has been a junior counselor and senior counselor at Circle Camp. She will come to one of our meetings to talk to us this summer.
Mike had suggested that if we have money left over at the end of the fiscal year, we should consider a $1000 donation to Flippin Furniture as a thank you for all of their help with the styrofoam project. The board voted to approve this expense.
We talked about buying a large Rotary blow up sign to stick on our vehicles. We could get also get other promotional items, such as magnetic signs, tablecloths and banners. Ken will investigate buying these items from Russell Hampton.
Lora reported on the grant committee. She has prepared a letter to landowners along the trail and sent it out to the grant committee for comment. So far Mike has noted that we should include a reference to our upcoming 100th anniversary. She is eager for more comments to be sure that the information is sufficient and presented in an effective manner. Once the letter has been finalized, we can determine who is going to contact which landowners. Alicia also suggested that this would be a good time to contact other community stakeholders and possible donors to get them on board.
In lieu of the Kanc cleanup, Lora has organized a local road cleanup. The date will be June 14; meet at the Walmart parking area and we will start by picking up trash there. Afterwards we will head to Lora and Ken’s house at 10 Bell Road in Plymouth and carpool down to a parking area on Old Hebron Road, where we will fan out and collect trash there and on Texas Hill Road. Lora will supply bags; people should bring gloves, The town of Plymouth will pick up the trash bags later. After the event Lora and Ken will provide sandwiches at their house. An email and signup sheet will be passed around in the next week or two.
Transition grants: We had no applications this year. We did have 4 students who applied for scholarships who are going into CTE fields. The scholarship committee forwarded those applications to the transition grant committee, which decided to award those students $500 each.
Car show: Denise has notified Parks and Rec that we will support the car show on July 30 (31st is the rain date). We have applied to the Common Man for precooked burgers and hot dogs (maybe even ice cream) to sell at the event. We will need people at this event to help sell food. We use the money we raise at this event to help fund drivers’ ed scholarships.
District Conference: Steve noted that there will a table for the Common Man for Ukraine at the event. At the end of the day attendees will take the lift up to Mt Cranmore and take photos along with the Common Man banner as a gift for Richard, our Rotary partner in Poland.
We have two mini golf teams for Putt Putt for Polio. There is one opening on each of our two teams. You can play any time from 1 pm on on the Friday before the conference. Bring your score card to 110 Grill. Our club will be making a $10 matching donation for very single player up to 75 players. The event benefits Rotary’s Polio Plus initiative. Erica suggested scheduling a practice session this week from Thursday through Monday in Campton at the mini golf facility across from the fish market. Let her know if you would like to do this and she will coordinate a time.
Raisa announced that Hubbard Brook is showing a documentary film on June 7 at 4 pm on viewing nature through different lenses. The event is free and they hope to attract 50 people. Contact her if you need additional information.
Happy dollars were shared by Raisa, Beth, Tony, Phil, Mike, Denise, and Alicia.
