February 12, 2025 Breakfast Meeting Notes

The 50/50 was won by Beth, who donated it to Tom.

Denise won the draw for the card game but was unsuccessful.

Belated January Happy Birthday wishes to Denise, Nancy, and Walter!

Super Bowl squares winners were announced. The 1st and 4th quarter winners were non-Rotarians, while Alex won the 2nd quarter, and Ben won the 4th quarter..

We had two guests today.

Tony led off with a Rotary Minute. The district has been enlisting time, energy and resources on building membership and he has attended two Zoom meetings about this. One of the topics they discussed was how to get people to a Rotary meeting the 2nd time. Tony and Denise They have come up with a formula for how to create a productive meeting. The forumula is written as 6I + 2F=V, where the Is are Inclusive, Inviting, Involving, Instructional, Informative, and Inspirational and the Fs are Friendly and Fun. The sum of these is V for Value.

This year's contestant's for the speech contest

Beth welcomed everyone to our speech contest. We have two students today thanks to PRHS and Mt Prospect Academy. The topic is How can a Rotary-school partnership increase respect? Club round one will award $200 to the winner, while, round two on March 5 awards $300 and district round 3 will award $500 for the two winning finalists. Final round in North Con way wins $700. Students drew numbers to determine the speaking order. The names of students will be shared after the contest has been done. Speeches will be 5 minutes, and then we will have 1 minute of silence so judges can mark their scoring sheet. Alicia was the timekeeper, while  Denise, Sharon and Nancy served as judges.

Our two students then introduced themselves. Jordan H is 16 and grew up in Tamworth. He enjoys drawing, video games, and basketball. He wants to attend college and pay college basketball, ultimately earning an MBA  Izzy Sun was born in Canada to Korean parents and has grown ups in NHY wants to go college to major in cellular and molecular biology and ultimately become a surgeon. She plays golf.

Contestant #2, Izzy, was the winner. Both names will be given to the district so that if winner can’t make a round, the runner-up is available.

Mike gave an update on styrofoam. We had to get another truck in the last week as the Flippin’ Furniture truck is still being repaired. We had 3 weeks’ worth of styrofoam and Jamie and Gilford immediately said, “We have no room!” (They have had a lot of illness and stormy weather has also been a problem.) Fortunately they found the room for the foam, but we had to leave our bags there.

Happy dollars were shared by Mike, Denise, Tony, Beth, Steve, Alex.

NOTE: Next week is the beginning of Massachusetts February vacation so our regular room at the Inn will probably not be available. Look to see which room we will be in.

Respectfully submitted,

Lora Miller, secretary
