Mike Currier

Mike Currier spoke to us today about the skate board park project. The skate park efforts started in 2009; they started small with one strip and a bowl, and then over the next few years they added features. A few days ago he saw 30 kids skating there! We have not had many problems with the park, and we now have no problems with skateboarding downtown. Graffiti also went down. They have taken down the graffiti park but want to get it up again to provide an area where people can paint the walls without getting arrested. People come here from all over to use our skate park and it is one of the nicest in New Hampshire.

Around 2010-11 the skate park founders applied for a community advancement development grant but lost by 1 vote. The completed park was turned over to the town and the costs to maintain it are very low.

A little less than a year ago Mike was contacted by a woman who works for the NH Charitable Foundation who had been instrumental in completing the park. She had a donor from Plymouth who wanted to do something for kids in town. Chris Hogan, owner of Northeast Skate Parks, quoted $151,000 for upgrades and improvements to the skate park. They put in a request for $155,000 and they were awarded the grant. The town accepted the donation and work will be done by the end of the summer.

A local contractor put in a concrete pad and the high school students designed a pavilion which will be built on the pad. The pavilion will be in a railroad theme. There will be plenty of parking. They are also going to put in a connector between the park and the pavilion.

Mike thanked us for our efforts to help with the skate park. There is a great space for a Rotary sign along the back fence.

The 100th anniversary committee will be meeting right after today’s meeting. June 25th will be the changeover dinner; cost is $40 per person. RSVP to Alicia and give money to her or Ken.

Happy dollars were shared by Allicia, Sharon, Nancy, Mike, Steve, Denise, Phil, Raisa, Jake, and Russ.

Russ will be going to visit national parks in the Pacific Northwest this summer. It was noted that 4th graders get free admission to national parks. A National Parks pass is available for seniors too.

Respectfully submitted,

Lora Miller, secretary
