Many thanks to Sharon for taking notes in Lora’s absence.
We had a nice group in attendance today along with guests Jake and Raisa. Kerry attended on Zoom as did Erica and Walter.
Raffles: 50/50 won by Nancy. Card game: Russ drew Jack of diamonds, game goes on another week. The jackpot is nearly $800!
Mike did the Rotary Minute and explained the 4-Way Test of the things we think, say or do. It was created in 1932 by Herbert J. Taylor. It is meant as a personal and individual challenge, as well as building community.
Announcements: Monday was raining so the Common was not undecorated. We’ll plan on another date in the near future. Beth and Alicia worked with Steve to go through Rotary items in storage and plan for a new location.
Reminder: The Rabies Clinic is Saturday, March 29th at the Plymouth Police Station. All volunteers should be there between 12:15 to 12:30. The event is over by 2pm.
The Transition Grant committee said the most recent event at the Plymouth Regional High School was great. A barber from Pemi Valley Barbershop came to speak to the students. There were about 30 students, mostly boys, and they were very interested and had many questions for the barber. Another event presented a construction company who brought lots of swag and interest in the construction business. The committee is also looking for women in the trades to speak to the students. Please contact Alicia if you know of any.
Denise reminded us of the upcoming District Conference at Mt Cranmore on May 30th & 31st. There are lots of great activities and speakers. Plus there is a mini golf tournament. Denise, Mike, Ken and Nancy will be the foursome representing the Plymouth Rotary Club. Good luck!
Host and speaker today was one of our newest members, Will Hanna. Will has been practicing martial arts for 15 years and early on loved it so much he became a teacher. He is the owner of 8 Martial Arts in Plymouth NH.
Will went over some of the early masters such as Tao. Taoist Yoga is a way to unite mind and body.
Hands and feet are powerful electric centers, maybe the reason we shake hands, or clap.
When Will was 21 years old, after a family tragedy, he realized he needed discipline and began to do martial arts. He was hooked. He began to learn the different techniques of martial arts and started to teach. He helped his 84 year old grandmother with these techniques and she improved her condition and he was convinced of the power of martial arts.
There are pressure points in our body, and about 1/3 of the body the pressure points are on the surface of your skin. He also explained how the abdomen is the “furnace” of your body. Learning breathing techniques.
Will went through several breathing exercises with us, some siting and some standing. They use slow Tai Chi and Yoga techniques to help move your body without straining or injuring yourself.
Will is happy to answer any questions you may have about Martial Arts he teaches.
Denise and Alex had happy dollars.
Alex said that 200 people attended the Ukraine concert in Waterville Valley and raised $16,000 for Common Man for Ukraine. The performer was a pianist from Ukraine and it was a wonderful time.
Next week is Round 2 of the Speech Contest. We will host the speech competitors and members of the Linwood Rotary Club and Bristol Rotary Club. It’s a wonderful meeting and encourages everyone that can to attend.
