July 8, 2026 Breakfast Meeting Notes
The 50/50 was won by Steve, who gave it to Tom.
Ken W won the draw for the card game but selected the 8 of spades.
Hey did you know: This afternoon there will be a reading of the Declaration of Independence at 6 pm at town hall. A drum and bugle corps will perform at 5:40. There will be free ice cream afterwards. There will also be the usual Wednesday night concert on the common.
Mike C had a “does anyone know?” question. There is a 93 room hotel under construction on Tenney Mountain Highway. There is a lower cleared area with crushed gravel and he wondered what would be put there. Alex felt that there was “something” that had been approved for that area but wasn’t sure quite what.
Ken W asked about past Citizens of the Year. Specifically, in 2021 the recipient was FISH…what is or was that? It was a service organization of people who drove other people to appointments etc.
Rotary updates: July 22 our meeting will be an evening one at the Sunset Grill; there will be no morning meeting that day.
Cruise night will be on July 20. Denise is passing around a signup sheet; we need people to do setup, breakdown, and sell 50/50 tickets and popcorn. The setup at 5, and the event starts at 6:30. We need two 8 foot tables, one for swag and one for 50/50 stuff, a cash box, and popcorn. Possibly a popup tent but it will probably be cool enough by that time of day that one won’t be needed. We have our table covers, our feather flags, vests and aprons…these will all need to be gathered that morning. The church can provide tables along with the popcorn machine. Electricity is available at the amphitheater.
Don’t forget that our goal is to provide 100 acts of service in the next year. Write the item down on paper and drop it in the jar.
Ben presented Tony with his thank-you gift for serving as president: two matching beer steins, handmade in Campton.

Our guests and speakers today were our RYLA students and their parents. We had four students attend but only 3 were able to make it this morning. The first to speak was Aaliyah, going into her junior year. She does soccer, track, and cheerleading at the high school. The experience was amazing; it helped her to open up and develop her confidence and leadership skills. Next was Addie, who plays soccer, and enjoys making art. She enjoyed her time at RYLA. It was really cool how a bunch of people who didn’t know each other could be fast friends. Finally Hannah spoke; she does dance, theater, and is in the Ossipee club. She thought it was great to get together with all of these other students.
The most challenging activity: Aaliyah thought that the public speaking was the hardest part, but her comfort improved over time. Addie thought that the talent show was the hardest; she sang the alphabet backwards. Hannah thought that building a bridge out of cardboard and tape was the most challenging. (Note that people could not talk during this bridge building exercise)
Mike mentioned the True Colors activity, where students determined what color represented their leadership style. All 3 students here today were in the blue group. The point was to determine everyone’s unique leadership style. Every team also had to come up with a flag and a cheer. They were all surprised that the meetings weren’t awkward at all and how quickly everyone made friends.
Denise will be delivering the little heart pillows (for chest surgery, such as women recovering from breast surgery) tomorrow at the hospital. If you would like to help her, please let her know, or just show up at the hospital’s lobby at 10:45. Wear your Rotary swag as this will be a photo op!
