March 26, 2025 Breakfast Meeting Notes
This morning we are hosting the second round of the speech contest. Beth reviewed the rules of the contest. Contestants pulled numbers to determine speaking order and each student will only be identified by number during the contest to avoid any bias. The topic is how Rotary and students can work together to foster respect in the schools and in their community. We had a total of 3 students, one each from Lincoln-Woodstock, Bristol, and Plymouth. The student shared their unique perspectives on respect, what it means to each of them, and gave us their thoughts on how to achieve it.
Tony did his famous NH Trivia while the judges were tabulating scores. Today’s topic is “Mr and Mrs Rotary President, part 2”.
Contest results were then announced. Second place went to Dalton Lylyk of Lincoln-Woodstock, while first place went to Kinsey Boardman of Newfound/Bristol. Our club’s winner for the first round, Isabella Son, was awarded her prize.
Steve thanked us all for our help in the Common Man for Ukraine. Alex, Lisa, and Susan, as well as Phil, are in Poland this morning, headed to our trauma relief camp and Zamosc. Tomorrow they will be leaving Poland and going into Ukraine in a 17 van caravan. All vans are driven by Polish Rotarians or volunteers from other countries. This is a club-to-club effort, not a Rotary International initiative. The program is a wonderful example of person-to-person cooperation with another Rotary club to provide relief to others in need.
Happy dollars were shared by Alicia, Tony, Mike, Erica, and Greg, as well as Dalton and Janie from Lincoln-Woodstock.
Upcoming local events: We will remove decorations from the Commons this Friday at 3 pm.
On April 4, First Star Tonight will be having a fundraiser for kids with chronic disease. Tickets are $80 and the event will be heard at the Barn on the Pemi. East Coast Soul will be playing. See Bill for more information.
This Friday at 7 pm there will be 3 comedians at the Dam Brew House in Campton.
We next asked club presidents to review their upcoming projects. Lincoln-Woodstock club will be sponsoring a public service dinner at 5:30 on April 12 at Woodstock Station, upstairs. Their club also noted that there is a new White Mountain Pickleball group up in Lincoln. They are hoping to hold a 3 club match with Bristol and our club. Finally, Lincoln Woodstock will be having another Kanc cleanup…date is still to be determined…as well as holding a Lincoln-Woodstock cleanup.
Interact at Lincoln Woodstock is having a number of activities this spring, including a mini golf tournament, cleaning up a hiking trail, maintaining the John Riley garden, working on the new skateboard park, and doing a project with the Circle Program.
The next service project in Bristol is to help local citizens with small things: fixing windows for housebound folks, repair to railings, raking leaves, or other things that they may need to have done. They are also trying to rekindle senior citizen outreach; they may do a local trip to New London playhouse for a play. They are also going to a couple of retirement homes to play music.
Plymouth’s projects include taking down decorations, as well as our long-term grant project for a multi-use trail. Tony noted that our rabies clinic will be this Saturday at 1 pm at the Plymouth police department. We do need an extra table or two and more chairs. Erica and Sharon will be greeters, Bill will be the cashier, and the rest of us will fill out paperwork.
The 50/50 was won by Bob from Newfound.
Finally, Mike announced that the District Conference at the Cranmore will be held on May 31, with some opening activities on the 30th. There will be a “Putt-putt for Polio” at Pirates Cove in conjunction with the conference. Clubs are encouraged to put together teams and go play mini golf. All proceeds will go to Polio Plus. Go to Rotary7850.org for more information on the conference. Note that you can get a hotel discount up until April 15th as well as a registration discount as long as you register by April 1.
Respectfully submitted,
Lora Miller, secretary
