October 4, 2023 Breakfast Meeting Notes

50/50:  Bill won the prize today.

Card game: Russ got to draw the card but drew the 2 of spades. The game goes on.

Tony was out with Covid so Nancy did a Mission Moment on Polio Plus Precursors. Polio Plus started in 1985, but the Rotary of Toledo, Ohio started a program in the 1950s. Other clubs donated iron lungs to local hospitals, beginning over a century ago. The health care system set up to address polio has also allowed Rotary to respond quickly to other diseases. Note that World Polio Day is the 24th of October…make your donation to the Rotary Foundation!

Social media committee meeting: Mike and Beth met with Courtney, who is the district social media person, via Zoom on Monday. The crucial thing with Facebook is sharing out from our page; we need members to share our page, follow/like the page on their own page. Courtney suggested making a post on our club Facebook page that says, “This is a new Facebook page…please follow, like, share” etc.  We are going to look at Instagram (note that you can cross post from Facebook to Instagram automatically). Some clubs have a member of the month to watch over social media so that the work gets spread around. She also offered to come and do a 20 minute program for us on social media, perhaps at our next forum on October 25th if we aren’t swamped with preparations for the Penny Sale. Steve suggested that email is still the workhorse of social media, so if you have someone’s email you can get in touch with them. Remember to get people’s emails when you solicit donations and prizes for the Annual Fund and the Penny Sale.

Penny sale: The tickets are not available yet but hopefully will be ready later today. Flyers and posters are done although the $500 cash from a friend of Rotary is missing from the poster (it is listed on the tickets). Everyone should grab some posters and flyers and get them posted. (Note that one of the gold sponsors is NOT listed on the posters, so we may need to reprint.)

Styrofoam bin has been delivered to Holderness and Ben reports that it looks great, very eye-catching, and it is overflowing already! Plymouth’s bin is also in place and seeing heavy usage.

Last night Steve had a Common Man for Ukraine event at the Currier Museum. It attracted a lot of attention and people seemed to enjoy it.

Today’s guest is Ben’s son Quinn, playing musical selections on his guitar.

Sharon and her husband will be having an open house at their new house this Saturday from 10-12 and all are invited!  Denise, Beth, Braden and Ben all shared happy dollars.

Respectfully submitted,

Lora Miller, secretary
